AMES, Iowa – Iowa State gymnastics Head Coach Jay Ronayne has announced the signing of Marina González. A native of Madrid, Spain, Gonzalez competed in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics for Spain in artistic gymnastics.
"Marina has been a high-level International Elite for quite a while," Ronayne said. "Her innate talent, combined with a lot of hard work, has helped her rise to be one of the best Gymnasts in Spain and represent her country in the Tokyo Olympics. As a member of the Spanish National team, she has competed at the highest level in the world and understands what it's like to compete under pressure."
At the Tokyo Olympics, she was a member of a Spanish team that finished 12th overall. In the floor exercise, she finished 36th with a score of 12.866.
"We are very excited to have her join our team to pursue her collegiate and elite gymnastics goals here at Iowa State University," Ronayne added. "Marina has a very elegant style, but is also very athletic, which will serve her well in NCAA competition. I believe Cyclone fans will be captivated by her gymnastics and I look forward to seeing the great things she will accomplish here as a Cyclone."
González won the silver medal in the all-around at the 2019 Spanish National Championships and won the gold medal on the floor exercise at the Szombathely World Cup with a score of 12.866. González won the bronze medal in the all-around at the 2020 Spanish National Championship.
